Background: Universum Science Museum belongs to the National Autonomous University in Mexico. As a public university museum, Universum has a strong social commitment. Through its 15 years of existence, Universum ́s museology has been developed in a way that welcomes all sectors of society. The museum receives around 4,000 visitors daily, and this public has different characteristics that are constantly taken into account to provide useful and respectful experiences to everyone inside the museum. Objective: To provide different kinds of visitors with a meeting place for entertainment and learning through scientific activities in the museum. To promote interactions between sectors of society that usually do not interact, therefore destroying even for a minute the social barriers that operate elsewhere. Methods: We do constant surveys with our public to understand their needs and desires. Museological and philosophical frameworks are adapted towards the public ́s necessities. Results: W ith our well‐known tolerance free meeting space policy, Universum has become over the years as a meeting place for social groups that usually do not feel wellcome in other places. Our staff has been trained to receive and give interesting museum tours to children living in the streets, blind visitors, convicts that get a one‐day pass to leave the prison and visit our museum and the families of the EZLN social movement. Conclusions: Our efforts after 15 years are very successful. We provide a meeting space not only for educated people, but for social sectors that are abandoned or neglected. Our staff is highly commited to these visitors and our museology is conceived in such a way that allows interactions and pleasurable experiences for everyone. Science is conceived as universal. Society can find in science a new meeting point. Museums, as social spaces, should acknowledge this task.
