In January 17, 2002 a destructive volcanic eruption occured near Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. "A congolese vulcanologist Dieudonne Wafula , who has spent years studying the volcano on Mount Nyiragongo, sent urgent e-mails to experts around the world one week before the lava began flowing on 17 January", was reporting the BBC news (23 Jan. 2002). The monitoring of the Volcano Nyriagongo is done by a small observatory bulding located 16 km south of the Nyriagongo crater. A collection of press clips appeared in the different euroepan media will be presented to show how it is covered an emergency occuring in countries where monitoring of natural hazard is difficult and where health risks are higher than in developed countries.
