The modern society is described in many ways and one of them is an age of scientific and technological civilization. It is also said that there is no area not affected by science. In this sense, it is only natural to explain about and teach science to the public, and the level of scientifc education can have a huge impact on the determining of the future competitiveness of a country. Despite countless technological achievements made by science in numerous areas, the level of public understanding of science is considered to be still lacking.

This thesis is aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding and contents of scientific communication that explains about science, a relatively unfamiliar area to the public, from a social science perspective. It approaches to the terms of science and communication in the etymological aspect and depicts the social function and understanding of scientific communication.

Furthermore, this thesis intends to deliver the basic meaning and function of scientific communication, one area of social science to nurture and increase the public’s understanding of science which constitutes a part of social culture.
