This brief paper forms part of ongoing work by the authors in contrasting national strategies for the popularisation of science and technology (PST), building on similar discussions at previous PCST meetings. In particular we focus here on analysing the terminology used within four national strategy documents, contrasting key terms and highlighting important similarities and differences in approaches between the different countries. We also raise a series of important questions relating to future work in this area.
