The digital era has opened communication between people, from mere passive consumers of information to active participants of the same. While this phenomenon has led to a capillarization of the information on the other hand It made their reliability and accuracy not always certified. In this context, the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) has undertaken in recent years multimedia communications activities focused on two objectives: to directly reach for the public and act as an authoritative source of information in astronomy and astrophysics among the citizens
and the Italian media news, delegating this task to an ad hoc online newspaper and leaving the institutional communication to the INAF website. Media.inaf, the online portal of INAF information contains articles, interviews (written, audio and video), specials, and from April 2011 Sidereus, a web video magazine. Even the ‘social’ aspect is particularly important: INAF has a profile on Facebook, but also on twitter, as well as a TV channel on Youtube and Vimeo and a friends page on media.inaf.
