Developing scientific awareness among the masses is the need of the hour. In this way one can connect the general public with the specialist scientific community. Every nation is trying hard to make their public scientifically aware for social welfare and development, national advancement, appreciation and criticism of scientific advances, to end the possible superstitions and blind faiths, to strengthen the public faith on the doctrine of science and for establishing a direct link between science and society. The difficulty of spreading scientific awareness in a country like India is further multiplied by the various challenges of linguistic, social, cultural and economic diversity prevalent in the country. To meet these challenges, it is very much required to exploit the available opportunities and to come up with new ones. The present paper proposes to discuss the various challenges and opportunities for spreading scientific awareness in India.
