Every year 10,000 students from the primary and upper secondary school level visit the Faculty of Life Sciences at University of Copenhagen, Denmark (LIFE). Results: One in every four new bachelor students visited the faculty with their class. They regard the visit very important for their choice of study programme. They regard their visit as being of a high quality. We invite upper secondary school classes from all over Denmark to Copenhagen to a seminar or a lecture on a specific subject related to the teaching back in their school. Approx. 100 LIFE scientists give these lectures, and about 25 LIFE guides act as hosts for our upper secondary school visitors. The guides also give them an intruduction to what it's like to study at the university and to LIFE's 25 degree programmes. The guides also give guided tours of the faculty campus. The Faculty of Life Sciences has developed a set‐up that enables us to 'translate' our research to upper secondary school students and primary school children. In this setup scientists and students act as inspiring, authentic and trustworthy role models. For the past seven years this activity has been a key element in the faculty's strategy to recruit new students. One of the characteristics is that our scientists and students play a very active role. Among other things this has had a positive effect as a platform for self‐understanding that makes it possible for us to communicate science and brand ourselves at the same time.

Research communication ‐the succesful way to recruit students?
