There was one of the best systems of science popularization in the Soviet Union. However after the crush of the Soviet power the system was nearly destroyed. The circulation of the main popular science magazines dropped by two orders. For example, the circulation of the most popular "Science and life" dropped from 4 millions to 40 thousands, the "Chemistry and life" dropped from 400 thousands to 4 thousands. The scientific pages disappeared from the main newspapers. What is the situation now? There is a lot of activity to return the science popularization on the Soviet level. The main problem is to build new infrastructure for the science news circulation.

1 In 1999 we in the popular science magazine "Chemistry and Life" had established the agency of Russian science news "InformNauka" ("InformScience"). Now all the main paper mass media are among the subscribers of the agency weekly newswire.

2 The scientific pages in newspapers. Some years ago there was a project of the Russian academy of science to create weekly scientific pages in leading Russian daily newspapers. Such pages were created in four newspapers. However after the Academy of sciences finished the funding of the project, the volume of this weekly pages was reduced.

3 Some interesting projects are in the social-political weekly editorials. Now scientific pages are in all Russian editions of this kind: "Russian Newsweek", "Itogi", "Expert" etc. However the projects to translate into Russian some foreign popular-science magazines were not successful. The most dramatic story happened with the Russian edition of "New Scientists" – the "Lomonosov" magazine: it was on the Russian market for less then a year.

4 There is not a lot of governmental support of the popular science editions; however some privet funds have an activity in this field. For example, the International Science and Technology Center with the "InformNauka" agency began in 2005 the tradition of the Cafe Scientific in Russia. Now the fund "Dynasty" of Dmitriy Zimin gives the main support for these projects. Up to now here were more then 15 café in different cities of Russia. The British counsel with the "InformNauka" agency had established the popular science articles and photos competition in Russia and Ukraine. Also there are festivals of science – the first was organized in 2006 in Moscow in the Moscow State University. In 2007 there were two festivals – in September ion Moscow also in the Moscow State University, and the second in Kaliningrad organized by the "Dynasty" fund.

5 In the Internet the scientific pages are in the main on-line newspapers, however a lot of the information on this pages reports not on Russian, but foreign science: there is a lot of high quality free-of-charge information about the researches of US and European scientists in the on-line agencies like EurekaAlert!, NewsWise and AlfaGalileo, but the sources of free information on Russian science are rare.

Now the situation in Russia with science popularization is much better, then in 90-th years. However, there is huge potential for the development of new methods of science popularization.
