Background: We are surrounded by advanced science and technology; we can receive obvious benefits from this, but there are disadvantages at the same time. As we face the flooding of new information day by day in addition to the accumulation of knowledge since the origin of the human history, it can be easy for us to get lost in the middle, instead of becoming wiser and happier. People are forced to jump into the battle of keen competition unconsciously and feel threatened if they are not doing anything. They are too busy to think about the fact that they lose their freedom by something unidentified and invisible. People just keep trying to forge ahead in a haphazard way, presumably for success and happiness. However, people are not happier than before in spite of the amazing advancements of science and technology. Objective: I would like to suggest that we need to focus on developing the ability of human thinking for higher intelligence because we need to discern what the right kind of information is so that we can feel right and make the right choices. There are tons of information and knowledge. I wonder how we can deal with this monster in our life. We have to get the right information for our mind to think right so we can feel right in our emotions and choose right in our decisions about life. Science communication for the public and science education for children can serve as a tool of sharpening human intelligence to choose well in obtaining information, and thus benefit the overall quality of life. Methods: Here I want to talk about science literacy for the general public and for growing children, not for the elite scientists group. Scientific literacy is necessary for everybody to be able to think right in order to see things right. Growing children especially need to be trained in how to think logically and critically so that they can become intelligent and healthy persons. Science contains a lot of hidden rules or logic, patterns, order, reasons, analogy, etc. Phenomena sometimes look complicated but the theories behind them are often simple and patterns can be found that can apply to other phenomena or situations -even to human psychology or mentality. Therefore studying scientific phenomena can be very educational, with interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary effects. Science can teach us to be rational and intuitive and protect us from becoming unnecessarily emotional or fearful. Results: If we know how to think, then we can become calm even when we face unexpected difficulty in life, because the solution can come from our minds by thinking right. When we think, we use our intelligence rather than our emotions, so it is a safe source of finding a solution to any problem before us. People are often led by their emotions. They think they should respect how they feel, but right thinking should come first. We can be deceived easily by our emotions to be led in a wrong direction. Therefore we need our intelligence to discern what is good and useful, and what isn't. These days we also need to discern what to allow into our brain -rather than cramming garbage into it we should fill it with something valuable and really necessary. Conclusions: We need to be taught how to think, and we have to know what to take and what to discard along the pathway of learning. Science can serve as a bridge to a safe, peaceful and better future if it is applied well by individuals as a discipline.
