The paper deals with the gap between the historical reception of, and the current state of science, i.e. peoples understanding of science. The function of science centers and museums of technology is also discussed. Future needs and goals of society demand a revised notion of the role of the museum – operating like a tool for accessing the heart of knowledge, therefore a concept of a "museum of technical culture" or "contextmuseum" is presented.
