PCST Stories: Aquiles Negrete

We invited people who have attended PCST conferences to tell us about the connections and collaborations that have grown from attending these conferences. Here's one more tale!

At the PCST conference In Cape Town I presented for the first time my work on “Science Communication via Narratives”, which was the main subject of my PhD thesis in UK. At that time, the notion of communicating science using narratives was a novel idea amongst the science communication community. Very few publications existed on this subject, so I decided to push this idea as far as I could.

I was soon contacted by an editor of a British online journal, who had read the conference proceedings and was willing to publish my work. Later, the electronic journal decided to make a print book of the most visited papers in the website, and to my delight mine was one of them. Other authors included Sir Martin Rees and Chemistry Nobel Laureate Roald Hoffmann!

PCST conferences for me became not only a means of promoting and disseminating my ideas, meeting colleagues, making friends, publishing, initiating projects, but more importantly, a way of life itself…
